Trend Alert: Wimbledon 2012 street style...

Its safe to say that Wimbledon's dress code has become more relaxed over the years...here's a look at what is trending so far for 2012. Shorts skirts and dresses with flats seem very popular, along with the ever-so-cool leather jackets. I like it, there're all dressed for a typical British summers day :-)

Ramblings of the day...

I have always welcomed and embraced changes in my life, I’m not afraid of the unknown as such. I will try anything once and not afraid of taking chances. This might stem back from my childhood..before the age of 13, I have attended 4 schools (not because I was naughty, we moved alot), which meant making and keeping friends was rather difficult for me, I was an awkward and shy young girl, very naïve, and grew up in a rather conservative-ish Christian home back then. Taking all this into consideration, I personally found it hard to fit in when I was younger. Thank goodness those days are over, I am much more confident and stronger and with this armour am able to face the challenges and changes in my life. So I am on the move AGAIN! (I'd fit in perfect with the gypsy community hehe) I might not blog as often as I have but I will try and will keep you posted on my progress. You can also keep in touch with me via twitter @LadyJaniceTweet

3. Neutrogena Pink grapefruit facial wash and scrub, the smell alone is enough to cheer up your day, yum.
4. Prada, anything Prada, its my new boyfriend :-)
5. Mini skirts, not sure why, but I'm loving wearing them lately (note to self: work on toning those pins!)

Ramblings of the day...

Today I...

...feel happy and content, things are looking up
...will be meeting up with friends from South Africa, visiting London, yay
...want to research one day excel courses, need to brush up on my excel skills
...am wishing I could book a trip to New York for later in the year (it's on my bucket list)
...realise I need to do more exercise, tone up to be exact
...was dreaming of having a dog, really want one
...think I dream too much sometimes :-)
...see the amount of shoes I brought with me from South Africa has almost, if not doubled within 2 months!
...must create a proper budget and stick to it!

Some inspirational famous fathers...

Happy Father's day to all the amazing dads I know, especially mine! Here are a few famous dads in honour of their day...

Bruce Willis's relationship with ex-wife Demi Moore is a model for divorced parents everywhere.
Not only does the former couple maintain a friendship, but Willis is also friends with Ashton Kutcher, Moore's now ex-husband. He  also founded the Bruce Willis Foundation, which helps improve the lives of young people and provides support to help them reach their full potential.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are raising six children, when he is not filming,  he's working with the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which aids humanitarian causes around the world and his New Orleans-based charity Make It Right, which is helping rebuild homes destroyed by Katrina.

Steven Spielberg is not only a legendary filmmaker,  he is devoted to improving the lives of children through technology-based programs, Spielberg (shown with wife Kate Capshaw, left) co-founded the organisation Starbright, which focuses on the convergence of entertainment and eduction.

Will Smith, he founded the Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation to benefit underprivileged inner city children and their families.

Some inventions from South Africa...

If you ever need any other reason to be proudly South African, here are a few more...

1. Cat Scan
The computed axial tomography scan, or CAT scan as its better known, was developed at Tufts University in the UK by South African physicist Allan Cormack and Godfrey Hounsfield of EMI Laboratories. Their achievement secured them the1979 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

2. Oil from coal
Sasol is the world's first - and largest - oil-from-coal refinery. The history of Sasol began in 1927, it was realised then that, because South Africa did not have crude oil reserves, the country's balance of payments had to be protected against increasing crude oil imports. Sasol has developed world-leading technology for the conversion of low-grade coal into value-added synfuels and chemicals.

3. Heart Transplant
The world's first heart transplant was performed by Dr Chris Barnard in Cape Town on 3 December 1967.  In November 1967, Dr Schrire called Barnard and told him that there was a suitable patient for a heart transplant. Louis Washkansky was suffering from heart failure and Dr Barnard was prepared to take the chance. The rest is history.

4. Speed gun
The South African-made speed gun, developed by Somerset West inventor Henri Johnson, was formally launched at The Oval in England during the 1999 Cricket World Cup.

5. Kreepy Krauley
The swimming pool vacuum cleaner was invented by Ferdinand Chauvier, a hydraulics engineer who came to South Africa from the Belgian Congo in 1951.

6. APS Therapy
Gervan Lubbe, had always had a keen interest in medicine, but never thought he was clever enough to be a doctor. So in his spare time he studied human anatomy and physiology until he thought he knew enough about the causes of arthritic pain. Then he set out inventing a device that would alleviate the problem.
After building the first prototypes and obtaining approval from the health department and the Food and Drug Administration in the United States, Lubbe formed the company Tech Pulse in 1993 to produce, market and distribute the Action Potential Stimulation device.

7. Pratley putty
Pratley's famous glue is the only South African invention that has been to the moon. In 1969 the putty was used to hold bits of the Apollo XI mission's Eagle landing craft together.

8. Dolosse

Dolosse are large, unusually shaped concrete blocks weighing up to 20 tons. The structures are designed to break up wave action and protect harbour walls and coastal installations. Designed by Eric Merrifield and first installed in East London harbour, they are now used all over the world.

We all have two choices; We can make a living or we can design a life.
